N R
Narayana Murthy
Today is the 69th birth
anniversary (Not birthday) of Shri. N R Narayana Murthy, one of the greatest IT
professional and entrepreneur India has ever produced. He is the co founder of Infosys who along with 6
software professionals founded Infosys in 1981 with an initial capital of Rs 10000/=
which was provided by his wife Sudha Murthy. Within a span of few years it
became one of the topmost IT companies of India and soon spread its wings
throughout the lengths of the world. He was of the CEO of the company for 21
years from 1981 to 2002. During his tenure Infosys made spectacular progress
not only in terms of finance and profit but also on all parameters. Infosys and
Narayana Murthy were considered as a role model for Industry and CEO. Infosys
was the most sought after company for the job seekers not because of its high
salary but due to the excellent working conditions.
Murthy
studied electrical engineering at the
National institute of Engineering University of Mysore and M Tech at IIT
Kanpur. I am proud
to say that my daughter Ambily also did M Tech from IIT Kanpur where such
legends studied. However, her dream of receiving the certificate from Mr.
Murthy on convocation did not materialize. Before starting Infosys he worked
with IIM Ahmadabad as Chief Systems Programmer. Murthy
has been listed among the 12 greatest entrepreneurs of our time by Fortune magazine. He has been described as
Father of Indian IT sector by Time magazine due to his contribution to
outsourcing in India. Murthy has
also been honoured with several awards like 25 greatest global Indian living
legends by NDTV, Philanthropist of the year award, Commander of the order of
the British Empire by the Government of UK, Indian of the year award, Legion of
Honor by the Government of France, Padma Visbhushan etc to name a few.
Despite several
incredible achievements, he always remained simple and humble. Mahatma Gandhi
had shown the whole world that a lawyer need not be a liar. Similarly, Shri
Narayana Murthy proved to the whole world that one can be a successful
businessman by remaining honest and maintaining the highest traditions of
ethics and values. Politicians can do a great favour not to Mr. Murthy but to
the country by electing him as the next president of the nation. Or will they
thrust another mediocre on the country and put the whole country and its
citizens to ridicule? If you want a legend to be the next president of the
country, the least you can do is to share this post and mobilize public
opinion.
I am a proud recipient
of a letter from this legend. On his 69th birth anniversary. I wish
him good health and happiness to serve the country, nay world for many more
years. We need several Narayana Murthys to take this great country of sages,
scholars, scientists and social reformers to the pinnacles of glory.
