Give Support not Sympathy

Give support, not sympathy
Recently I came across few FB posts where friends have put news paper cuttings relating to spectacular victories of some poor students belonging to various parts of the country. Fighting against all odds and poverty, these children achieved amazing victories in the school final examination. One of the students used to work as domestic help in 5 houses to support her family and ailing father. Another student’s parents are working as peanut sellers. Living in abject poverty and not even able to afford two square meals a day, these children achieved very high marks in the examination. Many friends gave their likes and few offered their comments
I requested the friends who posted these in FB to get details of their bank accounts etc so that willing people can provide some small help.  I suggested my friends that these poor and bright students need support and not sympathy, but nobody bothered to get these details. I do not know how many of the bright students from poor families will be able to pursue their higher studies. It will be foolish to expect anything from the corrupt politicians and insensitive bureaucracy.
All the friends are requested that in case they are not able to collect the details of the hapless students, kindly get the full details of the newspaper in which the news appeared viz; Name of the Newspaper, place of publication, date of publication, page number in which the news item appeared etc so that I can try to contact the newspaper office and collect the required details. After getting the details, request all the friends to donate at least Rs 100/=by bank transfer.  No NGO, Trust or Team Leader is required to collect the amount and remit to the beneficiary. In fact many NGOs are only in paper and they are formed with the declared objective of social service but with the hidden agenda of looting the public money. Several NGOs are owned by politicians and what social service they are doing is anybody’s guess. Perhaps for politicians, social service means service to self and kith and kin.  I hope that all FB users will be able to do net banking transactions. In the unlikely event of anyone’s inability, he/she can take the help of their own family members or close friends. All these are required to ensure that the money goes to the needy and there is no intermediary who will swindle the money. If anyone feels that Rs 100/= is high, he/she can contribute anything they can afford.  Nobody will come to know as to how much they have contributed, so they need not hesitate to contribute any amount. There is a lot of difference between substantial contribution from one organization/Individual and small contribution from large number of people, and the latter will be a great motivating factor.
I am sure that a student who could pursue his/her higher studies with public support will turned out to be a gem of a citizen and will be an embodiment of human virtues like honesty, integrity, morality, simplicity, live, compassion, patriotism etc. There is a dire need for such people as many of the human virtues are being confined to dictionaries. Evils like rape, murder, dacoity, scams, scandals, corruption, adulteration, etc are increasing at an alarming rate and if this trend continues unabated, the country will soon go to devils. There is an urgent need to check and counter these menace and only persons with courage and conviction can take up this daunting task.
Come on Friends, let us join hands together to produce some good citizens and thereby protect the nation from ruin. Let us help our hapless and bright children to bring peace, tranquility and prosperity to our great land of sages, scholars and social reformers. Heaven and Hell are here only. You can make this a heaven or convert it into a Hell. Choice is yours.
